Bus stop woe

The bus shelter at Samathanapuram corner in Palayamkottai meant for passengers travelling towards Thoothukudi and Tiruchendur, is causing inconvenience due to its torn thatched roof.

The original bus shelter, which was constructed under Smart city mission was demolished for road widening and a temporary thatched structure was put up in its place. However, the passengers are enduring hassle due to both sun and heavy downpour. A new bus shelter should be constructed on the site for the convenience of the public.

Stray cattle menace

The cruel abandonment of milch cattle by owners and homeless bovines that roam on the streets of Palayamkottai and other parts of Tirunelveli are recurrent threats to passersby and motorists. The district administration could seek the services of charitable and religious cow shelters in Tirunelveli to provide refuge for the animals and reduce the threat posed to the public.

Palayamkottai railway station, located amidst the newly arisen residential area caters the need of passengers travelling towards rapidly industrializing Thoothukudi district. But the condition of Palayamkottai station is pathetic.

Constructed decades ago, the building remains without any amenities. It lies in a low-lying area, with a railway track positioned higher. Passengers are forced to climb onto the platform without proper steps.

Moreover, there is no designated parking area, modern signage or adequate lighting. Steps should be taken to raise the station’s height to match the track level and to equip it with modern facilities for the convenience of the public.
