Senior BJP leader H. Raja alleged that the Tamil Nadu government was solely responsible for the Coimbatore and Madurai Metro Rail projects being sent back by the Union government.
Speaking to journalists at Thirupathur here on Sunday, he said, “The Union government did not reject the Coimbatore Metro Rail project; it only sought certain clarifications. Previously, the Tamil Nadu government announced the Chennai Metro Rail project as its own scheme. Nevertheless, the Union government accepted it and allocated a large amount of funds. Why, then, would the Union government send back the Coimbatore Metro Rail project?”
He further claimed, “The Tamil Nadu government, which had stated that electric buses would suffice for Madurai’s population, only submitted the Metro Rail project for Madurai to blame the Union government. This fact has now come to light.”
