Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has completed two skill-development programmes of one month each for its students, under the aegis of Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation’s (TNSDC) ‘Vetri Nichayam’ scheme.
The first of the Naan Mudhalvan Finishing School training in ‘Cultivating Careers in Controlled Agriculture’, dwelling into greenhouse construction and crop cultivation was organised by the Department of Soil and Water Conservation Engineering, Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, culminated on November 28.
Experts provided guidance on greenhouse setup, climate control, selection of construction materials, irrigation systems, crop management, pest and disease control, year-round production, efficient resource use, quality and export potential, sustainability and food security and marketing strategies, said Balaji Kannan, Professor and Head ,Department of Soil and Water Conservation Engineering.
The Training Certificate given by TNSDC to the participants will enable them to secure government subsidies and financial assistance programmes designed to support new enterprises in modern agriculture., Mr. Kannan said.
Towards the end of another industry-oriented practical training under the ‘Vetri Nichayam’ programme earlier this month, Agriculture students were taken on an exposure visit to Aquasub Engineering factory to familiarise them with industry-relevant technical competencies.
The month-long Drip-Irrigation Technician Skill Development Training Programme conducted by the TNAU’s Centre for Water and Geospatial Studies benefitted 25 agriculture graduates.
They received practical training in selection of pumps for drip and micro-irrigation systems; pump operation, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting; techniques for energy-efficient pump integration in irrigation systems; and understanding the role and performance of pumps in micro-irrigation networks.. Sureshkumar, Marketing Manager of Aquasub Engineering, said the trainees witnessed cutting-edge Industry 4.0 technologies, including Robotics, Automated manufacturing lines, and Advanced quality control systems.
