The Tourism department has approved the second phase of the Gotheeswaram beachfront development project in Kozhikode as part of its initiatives to enhance local infrastructure and tourism appeal.

The proposal to transform the beach into a vibrant recreational space has an outlay of ₹3,46,77,780, a press release said on Thursday (November 6).

Key features include the construction of an aesthetically pleasing entrance gate, a spacious parking area, and clear, informative signage. A central water fountain will be complemented by a gazebo, an open-air amphitheatre for events, and enriching sculptures. Tourism and Public Works Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas inaugurated the first phase of the project recently.

The Minister said that the second phase of the beachfront will also host cafeterias, shops, and a variety of food stalls, catering to diverse culinary tastes. “This will transform the beach into a vibrant and inviting recreational space, filled with activities and opportunities for relaxation and enjoyment,” Mr. Riyas added.

The enhancements include well-maintained pathways, comfortable benches, secure boundary walls, and modern lighting to create a welcoming ambience. For families, the beach will offer engaging facilities, including a movie POD with climbing structures for children and landscaped gardens.

Other features will include garbage bins for cleanliness, an outdoor gym, public restrooms, and a well-equipped and safe playground for children.
