One of the most sought tourist destinations in the Alluri Sitharama Raju district – Vanjangi, also known as Meghala Kondalu, is gearing up to welcome nature lovers this winter season. Renowned for its breathtaking sunrise views, this hilltop hotspot is now receiving a facelift under the initiative of the Forest Department.

According to Forest Range Officer, Paderu, ASR district, A. Prema, “The department has undertaken various development works at an estimated budget of ₹35 lakh, to ensure basic amenities for arriving tourists. Ms. Prema said “Alarge welcome arch, sitting benches and solar-powered lights are being installed. One of the major issues—lack of toilets is being solved through temporary restroom units. Water availability has been improved, thanks to a nearby stream.”

To ensure convenience for tourists, a cloakroom is being set up where visiters can safely deposit their bags. The facility will also prevent visitors from carrying plastic items, such as water bottles, up the hill, the RFO shared.

Ms. Prema said that since the area falls under a reserve forest zone all the new structures are being built using eco-friendly materials, with zero concrete construction.

“Almost 90% of the work has been completed, and the remaining tasks will be finished in the coming few days,” she added.

Meanwhile, the district administration is introducing electronic ticketing systems to ensure transparency in ticket sales and crowd management.

Typically, tourists begin flocking Vanjangi from the first or second week of November to witness the mesmerising sunrise. Many tourists camp in nearby tents and trek for a few hours to reach the highest peak for viewing.

It may be recalled that the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) Paderu with the support of other departments has undertaken several developmental initiatives in Vanjangi and surrounding villages, using the income generated through tourism from Vanjangi Hill.

The district police has also issued strict instructions and guidelines regarding the setting up of tent facility in the Agency areas. Authorities have said that permissions should be acquired from the concerned authorities before setting up tents. Unauthorised tents will lead to strict consequences.
