
A platform of Visakhapatnam railway stations wearing a deserted look as many services were cancelled due to Cyclone Montha on Tuesday.

A total of 20 trains, 10 originating in Visakhapatnam and 11 operating from various divisions of South Central Railway (SCR) in Andhra Pradesh and one from Bhubaneswar, passing through Visakhapatnam, have been cancelled due to heavy rains and gales under the impact of Cyclone Montha on Tuesday.
The cancellations have been done in the interest of passenger safety as a precautionary measure based on IMD alerts and reports, according to the railway officials.
The trains cancelled are 12727 Visakhapatnam- Hyderabad Godavari Express, 22203 Visakhapatnam- Secunderabad Duranto Express, 20811Visakhapatnam- Nanded Express, 12739 Visakhapatnam -Secunderabad Garib Rath Express, 20805 Visakhapatnam-New Delhi AP superfast express, 17220 Visakhapatnam – Machilipatnam Express, 18519 Visakhapatnam LTT (Mumbai) Express, 17244 Rayagada- Guntur Express, 11020 Bhubaneswar- CST Mumbai Konark express, 12861 Visakhapatnam – Mahabubnagar Express.
Train no. 18515 Visakhapatnam-Kirandul night express on Oct 28 and 18516 Kirandul – Visakhapatnam Night Express on October 29 have been cancelled.
Train no. 12703 Howrah-Secunderabad Falaknuma Express, leaving Howrah on October 28, will run in a diverted route via Vizianagaram, Titlagarh, Lakholi, Raipur, Nagpur and Ballharshah.
Meanwhile, South Central Railway (SCR) has announced the cancellation of 11 trains, including four trains scheduled to operate from their originating station on October 29.
The four trains cancelled on October 29 are 17248 Dharmavaram – Narsapur, 17256 Lingampalli – Narsapur, Lingampalli – Kakinada Town and Dharmavaram – Machilipatnam. The remaining trains cancelled on Oct 28 are: 17210 Kakinada Town – SMVT Bengaluru, 07060 Anakapalle – Secunderabad, 17247 Narsapur – Dharmavaram, 17255 Narsapur – Lingampalli, 12737 Kakinada Town – Lingampalli, 12755 Kakinada Town – Lingampalli and 17215 Machilipatnam – Dharmavaram, according to a statement issued by SCR PRO Nusrat M. Mandrupkar.
Eleven other long-distance trains have been rescheduled, and those will leave their originating station late by one-and-a-half hours to 12 hours. Passengers have been urged to check with the respective railway inquiry offices or on the official website for the latest updates on train operations.
Flights cancelled
Meanwhile, 32 flights from Visakhapatnam international airport were cancelled on Thusday. The lone flight, which operated on Tuesday was a nine-seater Vizag-Jeypore flight. The Vijayawada-Vizag-Vijayawada IndiGo flight has been cancelled on Wednesday. The other flights from Visakhapatnam to various destinations are expected to operate normally on Wednesday, according to airport Director N. Purushottam.
The Gannavaram airport near Vijayawada has also cancelled 16 flights, while the Tirupati airport saw four cancellation on Tuesday, according to sources.
