Train services along the Thrissur-Ernakulam route were affected after a diesel shunting locomotive developed a technical snag, causing its wheel to lock on the points and crossing zone in the yard during shunting operations of a freight wagon formation at Kalamassery on Friday (November 28, 2025) afternoon.

According to railway sources, as a precautionary safety measure, train movements on the adjacent main line were temporarily suspended, and services were operated in both directions on the single line. Single-line working required additional time to ensure the safe passage of trains one after another, resulting in delays to a few services. This caused trains to wait for clearance during the peak afternoon time.

Restoration work was carried out, and after ensuring track and operational safety, both mainlines were certified fit for normal train operation from 5.45 p.m. Normal train services were restored at 6.23 p.m., according to a statement issued by the Railways.

Train services were restored in a phased manner, with long distance passenger trains like the Vande Bharat given priority. Among the trains affected were Vande Bharat, Ernad Express, Guruvayur-Ernakulam passenger, and Thiruvananthapuram-Indore weekly train. All trains were delayed by more than an hour.
