The public using the Thudiyalur-Saravanampatti road have made a case for construction of a road over bridge (ROB) at Level-Crossing 4, located 600 metres away from the Thudiyalur railway station in Coimbatore city.

The Railway Board upgraded Thudiyalur railway station as Halt Station – 2 in July, based on the passenger earnings. The Thudiyalur-Saravanampatti Road is categorised as a major district road by the State Highways Department.

The public in the area have reinforced their demand for construction of an ROB after a recent incident of the level-crossing gate falling during night hours after passage of a train, posing risk to the motorists. The video went viral on social media.

“A ROB is indeed a necessity at Level-Crossing 4,” said V.K.S.K. Senthil Kumar, member, Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee.

Construction of the ROB will become easier in future if the proposal for the Directorate of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) scheme road, which is pending, is pursued by the district administration through utilisation of Infrastructure and Amenities Fund, he said.

According to the Ministry of Railways, on manned level crossings, the ROB is constructed on cost-sharing basis, if the traffic density is more than one lakh train vehicle unit subject to the consent of State government for closure of the level-crossing and sharing of cost.
