Oleevia Foundation organised self-defence karate training programme for the girls of L.N. Puram tribal residential hostel here. C. Sundaran, president of the National Karate Federation, led the training programme.
Mr. Sundaran said that martial arts training would play an important role in empowering young women to stand against social evils.
Municipal councillor L.V. Gopalakrishnan, who presided over the function, claimed that it was the first self-defence programme offered to tribal girls in the district.
Oleevia Foundation chief executive officer and former diplomat Ajith Kumar Varma delivered the keynote address. He said that disciplined martial arts practices would help young women achieve success in life and enhance their mental strength.
Hostel warden Shobhana welcomed the gathering. Students Deepika and Anu proposed a vote of thanks.
