The Congress party in Tripura on Wednesday (December 3, 2025) completed its ‘Vote chor, gaddi chhod‘ (vote thief, quit the seat) campaign in the State, with the collection of over two lakh signatures of protest. The campaign received enormous support from people across the State, which helped secure 2,13,109 signatures, Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Ashish Kumar Saha said.

The signed campaign forms were sent to the party’s headquarters in New Delhi via Speed Post. Mr. Saha, MLA and former TPCC chief Birajit Sinha, and senior leaders were present at the Agartala Head Post Office located next to the Congress Bhavan here.

“We joined this national campaign of the party on September 15. Congress’s central leaders in-charge of Tripura, and the party’s three MLAs in the State have worked hard to secure signatures in their constituencies,” Mr. Saha said.

A significant number of signatories hail from indigenous communities. The party completed the campaign despite all odds. The Congress high command would forward the “voices of the people” to the President of India against the menace of vote chori (theft) that has undermined democracy and popular franchise, Mr. Saha said. The Congress’s national protest rally, scheduled on December 14 at the Ram Lila Maidan in New Delhi, would see massive attendance of people from across the State, he said.

Objecting to conducting a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Tripura, the Congress leader alleged the SIR had become a tool for committing “vote chori”.
