A truck carrying LPG cylinders overturned at Varanavasi near Ariyalur on Tuesday (November 11, 2025), triggering an explosion and fire.

According to sources, the truck driver lost the control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve. The truck overturned and fell into a drainage near the road. The gas cylinders in the truck exploded and caught fire. The truck driver Kanagaraj managed to jump out but sustained injuries. He was taken to Ariyalur Government Medical College Hospital. 

The truck, carrying the consignment from Tiruchi to Ariyalur, was charred. The sound of explosion of cylinders was heard in a radius of about two km radius. The flames also triggered panic among the local residents.

Upon getting information, the Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the spot to bring the fire under control.

All vehicles from Thanjavur, Tiruchi and other places proceeding to Ariyalur are being diverted via V.Kaikatti. Ariyalur Collector and the Superintendent of Police have rushed to the spot.
