In a significant step towards preserving the ecological balance in Tirumala, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has initiated an ambitious transition from conventional diesel and petrol vehicles to a fully electric mobility system.
TTD Additional Executive Officer Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary made the announcement, highlighting the temple Trust Board’s commitment to environmental stewardship in one of the country’s most revered pilgrimage centres.
The pronouncement came after a recent review meeting in Tirupati attended by senior consultants from the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (New Delhi), along with the officials from the State’s Transport Department, APSRTC, and TTD.
Mr. Chowdary said the initiative aligns with the vision of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to transform Tirumala into a pollution-free pilgrimage destination.
“Several measures are underway. Our priority is to introduce a full fleet of electric buses on the Tirumala ghat roads,” he said, adding that taxis and other rental vehicles operating on the hill will also be replaced gradually with electric vehicles.
As part of the review, senior consultant Kunal Joshi from New Delhi made a detailed presentation, briefing on various aspects of the proposed transition.
He noted that the matter will be tabled during the upcoming meeting of the TTD Trust Board for finalisation.
