Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam founder Vijay is planning to hold a roadshow in Puducherry on December 5 as part of his public outreach programme ahead of next year’s Assembly elections in the Union Territory and Tamil Nadu.

A delegation of leaders representing TVK’s Puducherry unit on Wednesday met Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and Director General of Police Shalini Singh seeking permission for the roadshow.

The party has planned to conduct the event on a stretch from Kalapet to Kannikoil bordering Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu. The roadshow has been planned along Ajantha Signal, Sonampalayam, Ariankuppam, Thavalakuppam, and Kirumampakkam areas of Puducherry, during which Mr. Vijay would address people at important points, including the Sonampalayam water tank, said a party leader.

After the TVK delegation sought permission, representatives of certain organisations, including Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, submitted a petition to the DGP requesting the police not to accord sanction for the roadshow in Puducherry citing the death of 41 persons in the stampede at Karur in Tamil Nadu.

The TVK had earlier planned to take out a roadshow in Puducherry along the same route in October but the programme was abandoned following the stampede.
