The cyber crime police, Ernakulam rural, have booked two people for allegedly revealing the identity of the survivor in the sexual exploitation case against Congress leader and Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil.
The police have booked Rasak P.A. and Raju Vidyakumar for allegedly posting the photograph of the survivor on their social media platform. Mr. Rasak is accused of circulating the photo from November 29 and Mr. Vidyakumar from November 30. Mr. Mamkoottathil was booked by the Valiamala police November 28.
Both Mr. Rasak and Mr. Vidyakumar have been charged under Section 72(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which makes it an offence to print or publish the identity of a victim of sexual offences. The charge, if proven, can attract imprisonment up to two years and fine.
