A two day coastal security exercise ‘Sagar Kavach’ begins in the coastal areas of Thoothukudi and Kanniyakumari districts on Thursday to strengthen the security along the sea route.
To enhance coastal security, joint security drills are conducted periodically with the participation of all relevant security agencies. As part of the mock drill conducted in Thoothukudi, police teams intercepted and detained 12 security personnel, who attempted to enter the designated area posing as terrorists.
In Thoothukudi district, personnel from coastal security group, coast guard, district police, Q branch and CISF personnel took part in the exercise.
Under the supervision of Thoothukudi Coastal Security Group DSP P.N. Rajan and led by Inspector Pechimuthu, police teams carried out sea patrols in boats. They checked the identity cards, boat licenses, and other documents of fishermen on fishing vessels.
In Kanniyakumari district, Coastal Security Group Inspector Shanthi, led the exercise. The police personnel participated in the exercise, conducted sea patrols, inspected country boats and verified the documents of fishermen.
