Two persons died and 15 others sustained serious injuries in a van-autorickshaw collision on NH-16 near Kokkirapalli in Yelamanchili mandal, Anakapalli district. The deceased were identified as a 55-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman. Seventeen people from both the vehicles were injured.
According to sources, the vehicles were travelling from Anakapalli towards Payakaraopeta. Minister for Home V. Anitha, who was heading to Nakkapalli, stopped at the accident site to assist the victims. She helped move the injured to nearby hospitals using her vehicle, ambulances and police vehicles. She also accompanied them to the hospital, along with Yelamanchili MLA Sundarapu Vijay Kumar, and instructed the doctors to provide advanced medical care to the injured. Yelamanchili police have registered a case.
