Two passengers of a private bus died and eight others suffered injuries in a road accident at Parayipalle village in Allagadda Rural police limits in Nandyal district, late on Saturday.
According to police, the bus was parked on the roadside behind a lorry, when another speeding lorry rammed into it on National Highway 47. The bus hit the lorry parked in front, causing damage to both sides of the vehicle. The deceased were identified as Gaddam Badrinath (25) of Gadwal district in Telangana and Polavarapu Haritha (26), a native of Visakhapatnam.
Police said the bus was on its way to Puducherry from Hyderabad and the driver had halted on the roadside at Parayipalle village for the passengers to relieve themselves.
A lorry going on the same route hit the bus from behind at high speed causing it to hit the parked lorry in front. The bus suffered severe damage on its front and rear leaving two passengers dead on the spot and eight others seriously injured. Three of the injured were given first aid, while the remaining were shifted to Allagadda Government Hospital for further treatment.
The driver of the lorry that hit the bus, Mahmad Ali, got trapped inside the cabin and was rescued by locals using ropes.
Superintendent of Police Suneel Sheoran, Allagadda Deputy Superintendent of Police K. Pramod and other police officials rushed to the spot. Allagadda police registered a case.
