The Sadashivanagar Police have registered a case of misappropriation, forgery and criminal breach of trust against two female clerical staff of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for allegedly siphoning off ₹80 lakh worth funds allocated for the students.
Based on the complaint filed by Capt. Sridhar Warrier, Registrar, IISc, on Thursday, the police have registered the case against V. Soundharya, 25, and R. Deepika, 25.
According to the complaint, the duo, appointed as secretaries through a private firm on contract basis, are accused of diverting government funds to personal accounts by creating fake records.
Further probe revealed that the duo had conspired to divert the funds meant for students’ foreign trips. The accused changed the bank accounts of the students, replacing them with their personal accounts and the bank accounts of their family members and relatives to transfer the funds.
Following discrepancies in financial records, an internal audit was conducted which exposed the role of the accused.
