A 25-year-old man and his accomplice were arrested by Jolarpet police in Tirupattur on Sunday for reportedly kidnapping a businessman for failing to pay a portion of the agreed amount for the purchase of land.
The arrested persons were identified as R. Vishnu (25) and K. Sampath (45). They are residents of Reddiyur village near Jolarpet town. Initial inquiry revealed that farmer S. Ravichandran has sold his 6.5 acre of farmland to the victim and businessman B. Kumar a few months ago.
Police said that Kumar has allegedly paid only a portion of the agreed amount for the land at the time of registration. He promised Ravichandran that he will pay the remaining amount soon.
However, police said that despite repeated reminders, Kumar did not pay the balance money to Ravichandran. Subsequently, Ravichandran, his son Vishnu and relative Sampath went to Kumar’s place for the money.
After a heated argument, the duo kidnapped Kumar to the sub-registrar office to transfer the sold land to them. Based on an alert from Kumar’s family members, Jolarpet police rescued him. A case was registered. The duo was arrested and lodged at sub-jail in Tirupattur town. A probe is underway.
