A woman and her paramour were arrested by the Perundurai police on Wednesday night for murdering her husband and disposing of the body.

Police said Sridhar, 36, of Nagapattinam district, had been married to Parimala, 34, of Kasipillampalayam, for 14 years. While Sridhar worked as a parotta master, Parimala ran a studio and e-service centre in Perundurai. She later developed a relationship with Karthikeyan, 42, of Madurai. Sridhar’s drinking habit and frequent quarrels with Parimala led the duo to view him as an obstacle to their relationship, police said.

On November 21, during a funeral in Madurai, Sridhar’s brother Pugazhendhi questioned Parimala about Sridhar’s absence. Her contradictory replies raised suspicion, and she eventually claimed that Sridhar had died after she pushed him during a quarrel. She also admitted that she and Karthikeyan dumped his body in a bush near the Perundurai canal embankment.

Acting on the complaint, police recovered the body from a thorny bush and sent it for post-mortem. As the investigation progressed, the couple went into hiding. Special teams later arrested them near Periya Vettuvapalayam junction on the Perundurai–Coimbatore Road.

During interrogation, police said Karthikeyan had taken Sridhar to a deserted farm shed in Muthaliar Koundanvalasu, a few days earlier. After a drunken altercation, he allegedly stabbed and strangled Sridhar with his black T-shirt. He then brought Parimala to the spot, and together they transported the body in a car and abandoned it near the canal.

Both accused were remanded in judicial custody on Thursday. Police have seized the car, motorcycle, T-shirt and knife used in the crime.
