Ramanathapuram district police arrested two men in connection with the murder of a cook in Pamban, near Rameswaram.
Police said, A. Ansari, 65, a resident of Pamban, worked as a cook, was found lying unconscious with severe injuries near a Tasmac outlet close to his house.
Ansari was admitted to the Ramanathapuram Government Headquarters Hospital for treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning.
The Pamban police station registered a case and initiated an investigation.
Subsequently, police arrested Prakash Raj, 31, and Xavier Varghese, 27, of Pamban in connection with the case.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Ansari had argued with Prakash Raj and Xavier Varghese while the two were consuming alcohol inside the coconut grove. In the ensuing fight, the two men allegedly attacked Ansari with a stone, causing severe head injuries which ultimately led to his death, police added.
