The Musheerabad police on Sunday arrested two persons in connection with a mobile phone theft case involving cheating and diversion of attention, recovering a stolen Apple iPhone 17 Air from their possession.

An officer from the Musheerabad police identified the accused as Mohammed Ikramuddin, 24, manager at a spa in Kokapet, and Sumeet Saini, 38, a businessman from Qutbiguda, Badichowdi, originally from Sardarshahr in Rajasthan. Ikramuddin is the main accused, while Saini was found to have purchased the stolen phone.

“Ikramuddin saw an advertisement on OLX on October 18 for the sale of an Apple iPhone 17 Air and contacted the seller. He invited him to a homestay in Gandhinagar, where he had rented a room for a day,” said the officer.

However, on October 27, when the complainant arrived with his brother, Ikramuddin pretended to be a genuine buyer. “To gain their trust, he served them soft drinks and asked them to wait in a bedroom. He then took the phone, charging cable, and box under the pretext of showing them to his mother in the next room. Once outside, he bolted the door from outside and fled with the phone,” explained the officer.

Two days later, he sold the stolen device for ₹69,000 and allegedly used the money to clear his debts.

Police said Ikramuddin had previous offences registered against him, including cases at Chevella, Banjara Hills, and Jubilee Hills police stations.

Based on technical evidence and credible information, a team traced and apprehended Ikramuddin at his residence on November 9. The stolen iPhone was recovered, and Saini was arrested for receiving stolen property.
