Two persons, including a teenager, died in a fire that broke out at a night shelter in Vasant Vihar on Monday morning, the police said.
The deceased were identified as Arjun, 18, a native of Sambhal district in Uttar Pradesh who worked as a sanitation worker at a hotel in the Capital, and Vikash, 42. An officer said efforts are on to trace Vikash’s address.
A case was registered at the Vasant Vihar police station under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 287 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter) and 106 (death by a rash or negligent act).
A Delhi Fire Services officer said they received a call about a massive blaze near the Vasant Vihar metro station around 3.30 a.m. “We rushed four fire tenders to the spot, and shifted the two injured to a nearby hospital where they were declared dead on arrival,” he said.
