Two persons were seriously injured in a road accident after a speeding college bus hit an autorickshaw and then rammed a building along Alagarkoil Road at Sundararajanpatti here on Friday.
The police said that the bus, belonging to an engineering college in Kidaripatti, was proceeding from Madurai towards the college, carrying students.
As the bus was crossing Sundararajanpatti, the driver, Ramakrishnan, 52, lost control of the speeding bus and it got dragged towards the right side of the four-way highway.
With no median laid in this stretch of the road, the bus entered the carriage way of the opposite lane and hit the autorickshaw coming from the opposite side, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (Oomachikulam), Balasundaram.
It dragged the three-wheeler for some 20 feet and then hit a building on the right side of the road.
M. Arumugam, 48, who was sitting on the steps of the building sustained fractures on both his legs in the accident.
The autorickshaw driver, A. Kannan, 48, suffered multiple injuries and was rushed to a private hospital.
Along with Arumugam, the bus driver, who also sustained injuries, was admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital, the police said.
