Two youths were injured in a Border Security Force (BSF) firing while allegedly smuggling contraband items across the border at Boxanagar area in Tripura’s Sepahijala district on Saturday (December 6, 2025). The injured were initially taken to Bishalgarh Hospital, but due to the severity of their injuries, they were shifted to the GBP Hospital in Agartala.
They are currently receiving medical treatment at the referral hospital. Some reports indicate that the injured are minors, but there has been no official confirmation.
The two youths, identified as Saddam Hossain and Sonu Miah, were attempting to cross the India-Bangladesh border at Putia when BSF jawans opened fire on them after they failed to respond to repeated warnings.
Police said the incident occurred as the BSF was on high alert while patrolling the border in view of the present situation in Bangladesh. The BSF has not released any statement with reference to the incident.
Similar incidents of firing have recently occurred along the Tripura border in past weeks, which the BSF has attributed to self-defence or firing as a last resort.
Tripura shares the border with Bangladesh on three sides, and cross-border smuggling has been a menace in the State.
