Two lakh seedlings of various native tree species have been planted using the Miyawaki method till now across Perambalur district to create dense forests in limited spaces.

In continuation of this mission aimed at enhancing green cover in the district, a special drive was conducted on Wednesday during which 50,000 seedlings of various tree species were planted at Perali village. 

The exercise was inaugurated by District Collector N. Mirunalini in which students of Government Higher Secondary School, Perali and the Mahatma Public School were involved.

Saplings of neem, tamarind, magizham, naaval, nelli, illupai, neer marudhu, mahagony, red sanders, teak and guava were provided by the Forest Department and they were planted on an area measuring five acres at Perali village.

An official release said encroachments on government lands were being removed and the exercise of planting saplings of various tree species on them was underway.  Plans were afoot to plant 15 lakh palm seeds on the bunds of lakes, ponds and other water bodies of which one lakh palm seeds have already been planted.
