The police have arrested two more persons hailing from Uttar Pradesh in connection with the serial burglaries at the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) apartment complex at Kavundampalayam on November 28.

Firyan (23) alias Burman and Dawood (18), who were residing along with 10 others from Uttar Pradesh at a rented house at B.K. Pudur near Kuniyamuthur, were arrested late on Monday.

The police said that the main accused in the burglaries, namely I. Asif (45), Kallu Arif (60), and A. Irfan (48), came to Coimbatore on November 27 on the invitation of Firyan and Dawood, who were engaged in door-to-door sales of utensils.

Asif, Arif and Irfan burgled 13 flats at the TNHB complex in Kavundampalayam on November 28 noon and decamped with 42 sovereigns of gold and 500 grams of silver jewellery and around ₹1.5 lakh cash. The police arrested them by shooting them in their legs at the B.K. Pudur house the next day. Asif, who was admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital with the two others, died without responding to treatment on November 30.

The police have also arrested R. Ayubkhan (35) of Sugunapuram in Coimbatore, who had taken the three accused to the TNHB apartment complex at Kavundampalayam in his autorickshaw for the burglaries.
