
Police stopped a lorry coming from Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh, and seized bundles of ganja that were wrapped in plastic sheets.

A 32-year-old lorry driver and his accomplice were arrested by Paradarami police at a check post on the Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border near Gudiyatham town in Vellore on Thursday for smuggling 40 kgs of ganja.
Police said the arrested persons were identified as lorry driver S. Babu, 32, and his accomplice M. Rajkumar, 25. Both of them are residents of Madurai.Â
Superintendent of Police A. Mayilvaganan had formed special teams to prevent smuggling and sale of ganja in the district. An initial inquiry revealed that, during a vehicle check on the border village, the special police team stopped a lorry coming from Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh, and seized bundles of ganja that were wrapped in plastic sheets. The contraband was concealed under the driver’s seat.
During interrogation, the suspect told police that they were smuggling ganja to Tier-IIÂ cities like Coimbatore, Tiruchi and Madurai. Subsequently, the duo was arrested and a case was registered. Further probe is under way.
