Due to the confusion created by an officer’s interpretation of a court order, two officers performed duties of the Tahsildar in Khanapur on Wednesday.

Dundappa Komar, who had been transferred by the State government two weeks ago, came to the Tahsildar office on Wednesday, with the copy of a High Court order reinstating him.

The State government had transferred him, following a court order. But he had challenged the transfer.

He asked Tahsildar Manjula Naik to vacate her seat and allow him to function. She refused, saying that she had no such order from the State government.

Mr. Komar waited till lunch time and entered her office as she had left home for lunch. He began clearing files on her desk and started giving instructions to subordinates there.

On being tipped off from her staff, Ms Naik rushed to her chamber and asked Mr. Komar to leave. But he refused. Ms. Naik then discharged her duties sitting in another chair in the Tahsildar office.

Mr. Komar told reporters that he had read and understood the High Court order and that he was authorised to return to his post.

Ms. Naik complained that Mr. Komar had forcibly tried to take charge from her and violated rules, by sitting in the Tahsildar chair and signing files.

“I have sent a detailed report to the Deputy Commissioner and the Principal Secretary, Revenue Department,” she said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Roshan said that he will look into the matter.
