Two construction workers from Andhra Pradesh were electrocuted while installing an iron structure opposite a private wedding hall in Sothupakkam near Melmaruvathur in Chengalpattu district on Wednesday (October 29, 2025).
The deceased were identified as S. Ramana, 56, of Srikakulam, and T. Thoma Shantha Rao, 45, of Veeraraghavapuram. The police said both of them had been working for over a month on construction projects along with a mason from their village, Lakshmanan.
On Wednesday morning, while they were carrying a large iron beam to construct a sheet-metal shed at the Murugan Temple near the Maruvathur Murugan Wedding Hall, the beam accidentally came into contact with an overhead high-voltage power line. They died of electrocution.
