Two veteran officers C.D.N.V. Prasad and Kolsani Srinivas who undertook a trans-oceanic passage from New Zealand to India aboard their ocean-cruising yacht Tystie, reached Visakhapatnam on Thursday.

A flag-in ceremony marking the successful completion of their voyage was held at the Naval base on Thursday. It was presided over by Vice Admiral Kudravalli Srinivas.

The duo cruised over 10,000 nautical miles in the six-month long passage.

The veteran officers, who were classmates at Sainik School Korukonda in neighbouring Vizianagaram district, shared their experience in the event.

They said that they were not only the alumnus of the Sainik School Korukonda, but also course mates at the National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla, where their shared passion for sailing first took root.

Their journey commenced from Opua, New Zealand on May 13, 2025 with the first major halt at Port Noro, Solomon Islands, after covering 1,150 nautical miles via Fiji. Nearing the Solomons, Tystie encountered rough seas, during which Prasad sustained a knee injury. The duo set sail from Port Blair on October 14, 2025 and reached Visakhapatnam on November 20, 2025.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Admiral K. Srinivas hailed their voyage as `an inspiration to all’. He commended them for joining the distinguished ranks of seafarers who have upheld the timeless tradition of venturing into the oceans.
