Family members of BLO and assistant teacher Vipin Yadav, who died by suicide in U.P.’s Gonda district on Tuesday (November 25, 2025), alleged that the official was under extreme pressure due to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
They also claimed that Yadav was asked to drop names of members of a particular caste group. Yadav, from Malani Sarai Khas in Jaunpur district, was posted as an assistant teacher at Jaitpur Majha Primary School in Nawabganj block. He was serving as a BLO in Khempur gram panchayat.
“The SDM and the BDO threatened him and asked him to remove the names of OBC voters. Before dying, he told me over the phone that the officers were threatening to suspend him,” said a relative of the deceased in a video which has gone viral now.
The Gonda District Administration categorically denied the allegation and added that everyone involved in the SIR exercise was doing the work as per rules. Claims of instructions to remove names of voters of a particular caste is completely false, the administration said. A committee has been formed to investigate the death of the BLO.
The official allegedly consumed a poisonous substance on Tuesday morning. As his condition deteriorated, fellow teachers took him to a private hospital, from where he was referred to a medical college in Lucknow, where he was declared dead.
Meanwhile, the opposition parties said the death is a proof of the ‘dictatorial working style of the ruling BJP, where honest officers are harassed’.
“The Election Commission and the BJP government together are ruining the entire country. This is not just a personal tragedy; it is a proof of the dictatorial working style of the BJP, where honest officers are threatened to remove voters’ names. A young man who works hard like a farmer to earn a living is killed under pressure. It is clear that the BJP government does not value the lives of the youth of Uttar Pradesh and issues instruction to cut names of people hailing from marginalized sections. This politics of vote-cutting, citizenship-stripping, and trampling on people’s rights must end now,” said Anil Yadav, a senior Congress leader in Uttar Pradesh.
