U.S. software firm Sonatype, which has global offices in United Kingdom, Australia and Colombia, has opened its first India office in Hyderabad.

The Hyderabad Innovation Centre of the Fulton, Maryland-headquartered firm will serve as its largest and fastest-growing research and development hub. A key component of Sonatype’s expansion strategy, the office will work on AI innovation, open source security and play a key role in 24/7 global product delivery.

The facility has opened with 50 employees and the firm is in the process of onboarding 50 more. The plan is to have 200 employees within a year.

“Hyderabad has become a magnet for the world’s most innovative companies, making India the epicentre of software development powered by open source and AI. The new centre is poised to emerge as the single largest technology development site for Sonatype, CEO Bhagwat Swaroop said, adding the hiring plan is significant considering the global headcount of the firm at present is 400-450.

Head of India and Senior Director of Technology at Sonatype Abhishek Chauhan said the innovation centre can seat 200 people and help shape the future of secure software development for the world.

The firm, in a release, after IT Secretary Sanjay Kumar opened the facility, said in 10-12 months, the office will have more than 200 engineers, product leaders, data scientists and AI experts. The team will focus on developing cutting-edge innovations in AI/ML-driven security, cloud-native software development and open source intelligence.

IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu said Hyderabad is leading India and the world in AI and open source driven innovation.
