Led by Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan and Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, the Union Territory joined the rest of the country in celebrating the 150th anniversary of India’s national song Vande Mataram.Â
The Lt. Governor and Chief Minister virtually participated in the event held at New Delhi where Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the year-long celebrations to mark the 150th anniversary of the national song. The Prime Minister’s speech was live streamed at Kamban Kalaiarangam. Apart from the Lt. Governor and the Chief Minister, Speaker R. Selvam, Home Minister A. Namassivayam and Chief Secretary Sharath Chauhan watched the events live.Â
At Jipmer, Vir Singh Negi, Director, led the virtual participation of the institute in the national celebration organised to commemorate the occasion. Senior faculty members, officers, and staff of the institute joined the virtual celebration from the campus.
Pondicherry University, led by Vice-Chancellor P. Prakash Babu, joined the ‘Vande Mataram’ anniversary celebrations with a mass rendition of the anthem by over 300 students, faculty, and staff.
On the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor noted that ‘Vande Mataram,’ originating from the genius of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1875, was a timeless expression of love and reverence for the motherland that transcended literature to become the soul of India’s freedom struggle.
Auroville Foundation also joined the celebrations by live streaming Prime Minister’s address. Officials and staff members of the Foundation sang ‘Vande Mataram’ in unison with the Prime Minister. Officer on Special Duty G. Seetharaman attended the event, a release here said.
