A U-turn will come up on Thadagam Road near Kumarasamy Lake following an inspection by the Corporation officials and the traffic police.
The decision was taken to ease vehicle movement and reduce congestion along the stretch. The spot on the southern side of the lake connecting Thadagam Road was identified after assessing traffic flow and safety conditions.
While the move aims to streamline traffic, visitors to the lake said the lack of parking continues to cause congestion. They urged the Corporation to provide parking for vehicles visiting the park developed under the Smart Cities Mission. In the absence of such space, vehicles are parked along the roadside near the junction and main gate, narrowing the carriageway.
âThere is hardly any parking space in the mornings and evenings when many people come for walks or visit the park with children. Vehicles parked on the roadside block movement, and the U-turn alone will not solve the issue,â said M. Nirmala, a regular visitor.
Corporation officials said trial runs for the U-turn will be conducted using temporary barricades, and if found effective, it will be implemented permanently. They added that parking was earlier planned on the northern side of the lake, but the space is now part of the walking track. Two-wheelers are being parked near the main gate, and roadside stalls are occupying part of the area.
Officials also inspected the Edayarpalayam junction, where the existing U-turn will be modified to allow buses and lorries to turn without reversing.
