United Democratic Front (UDF) convener and MP Adoor Prakash said in Kochi on Wednesday (December 3, 2025) that a decision on the action to be taken against Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, who is facing charges of rape, will be taken after the Principal Sessions Court in Thiruvananthapuram delivered its decision on his bail plea.

“You will get a good news after it,” he told mediapersons after releasing the Ernakulam district manifesto of the UDF at the Ernakulam District Congress Committee office.

Mr. Prakash said he had held discussions with Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Sunny Joseph on the scenario after another complaint of alleged sexual assault against the Congress MLA was e-mailed by a woman to the KPCC president on Tuesday.

Mr. Prakash said Mr. Joseph had immediately forwarded the complaint to the police as the Congress party “did not have a commission of inquiry” similar to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) for probing such complaints.

On whether Mr. Mamkootathil should relinquish his elected position, Mr. Prakash said the former was elected by the people of Palakkad. “There are other such persons who had not stepped down from their MLA post despite facing similar allegations. I do not want to name them,” he said, in a veiled reference to CPI(M) leaders facing similar accusations.
