The Opposition parties in Kalamassery and Eloor municipalities have come out with a list of unkept promises against the ruling fronts.

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kalamassery has blamed the United Democratic Front (UDF) for having failed to ensure all-around development in spite of being the municipality with the second-highest revenue generation in the State.

K.B. Varghese, area committee secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], alleged that the ruling front had failed to ensure houses for the needy under the LIFE Mission project of the State government. As many as 855 persons had applied for houses under the project. The ruling front also fared poorly in ensuring basic infrastructure facilities, he alleged.

In Eloor, the UDF has published a chargesheet against the 10 years of Left rule. P.M. Ayoob, the front’s Parliamentary Party leader, blamed the ruling front for not taking concrete measures to resolve water scarcity despite being in power for two consecutive terms. They were also responsible for not being able to repair damaged roads, he said.

The UDF leadership in Kalamassery rejected the allegations, claiming that the municipality had become a hub of industries and educational institutions in the past five years. The Left front in Eloor claimed that the civic body has been able to ensure maximum utilisation of funds allotted by the Central and State governments.
