
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin laid the foundation for the modernisation of Ambattur Industrial Estate bus terminus on March 14, 2024.

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin inaugurated the upgraded Ambattur Industrial Estate bus terminus in Chennai on Monday (November 24, 2025). The facility was developed under the Vada Chennai Valarchi Thittam (North Chennai Development Plan) by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) at a cost of âč11.81 crore. He also flagged off the operation of 51 new buses worth âč30 crore.
According to a press release, the original Ambattur bus terminus was opened on April 10, 1967. The release said that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin laid the foundation for the modernisation works on March 14, 2024. The redeveloped terminus covers 1.63 acres and includes a ground floor and two floors with a commercial complex, 11 shops, office space, waiting rooms, a lactation room, ticket counters, restaurants, resting facilities for drivers and conductors, lifts, ATM facilities, seating, drinking water, modern toilets, display boards and space for 20 buses with three bays, release added.
The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) operated 139 buses on 53 routes from the Ambattur depot, totalling 2,026 trips daily. Also, 287 buses operated on 81 routes through the terminus, making 3,126 trips, the release mentioned. Several elected representatives and senior officials were present.
