The Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) has asked people not to feed stray dogs randomly at public places, including roads, drainages, school premises, bus stands, and other places, as the civic body has been receiving numerous complaints from the public about the menace of random feeding.

In a statement, the CMC on Monday, November 3, said stray dogs can be fed only in identified locations by people who have obtained prior permission from the municipal authority. Presently, the civic body has identified a few places where stray dogs can be fed, including in front of Beedinagudde Hindu Crematorium, Indrali Hindu Crematorium, Parkala Welcome Arch, Nittoor sewage treatment plant, near Bharatiya Vikasa Trust on Perampalli Main Road, near Raj Fish Mills, near the helipad on Adiudupi-Malpe Road, Kakkunje Narayana Nagara Cross, and near Vijaya Veera Sangha, Byloor. If people wish to feed stray dogs in more places, they may give a written representation to the CMC, which will consider it.

More rules

The CMC further said that apart from obtaining prior permission, those feeding stray dogs at identified places should also wear identity cards issued by the civic authority after submitting a written application to the body.

It will also be the feeders’ responsibility to get anti-rabies vaccines administered and sterilisations done for strays, the municipal authority stated. It also urged people not to abandon puppies born at their residences at public places and keep their domestic dogs vaccinated.

Violation of these conditions will attract strict legal action, said the release.
