A 55-year-old woman in Udupi has complained to the police that she was cheated of ₹31 lakh by fraudsters offering part-time job.

In the complaint, the victim said she clicked on an advertisement “work from home by online and earn” on Facebook on November 29. Later, she received a message on Whatsapp by a person claiming to be an HR executive of a corporate firm and he asked her to fill a form. She then received three separate links to tasks, which she completed and money got deposited in her account.

On December 1, she received a link, which took her to the Telegram account of one Guha Anusuya, who asked the victim to choose tasks for ₹1,000, v3,000 and ₹5,000 and promised 30% to 40% returns on investment. She transferred ₹1,000 and ₹2,000 to the QR code sent by the sender for the related tasks and she got ₹3,900 in return.

Then she paid a total of ₹31 lakh between December 1 and December 4 for tasks, but she did not get anything in return. Realising that she has been cheated, the victim filed the complaint seeking action against fraudsters. Her complaint was registered by Udupi Cyber Economic and Narcotic Crime Station for offences under Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of Information Technology Act.
