Unabated sale of drugs is the root cause for sexual offences against women, said BJP Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagendran and Coimbatore East MLA Vanathi Srinivasan. They addressed the media on the heels of the alleged sexual assault of a college student by three men in Coimbatore.
Mr. Nagendran lashed out at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin for his Dravidian model of governance, pushing Coimbatore far from the status of being the safest place for women. He recalled the 2013 incident at Srivaikundam in Thoothukudi wherein a women was raped and murdered. Mr. Stalin who was then in the Opposition and MP Kanimozhi had staged a demonstration there.
The Chief Minister who travelled to Karur on the night of the stampede during TVK rally remains silent, as also Ms. Kanimozhi, he charged.
He alleged that sale of ganja and drugs was rampant in Tamil Nadu. He also said that till May 5, the State had witnessed 18,200 sexual offences.
The BJP’s Women’s wing, led by its president Vanathi Srinivasan, will stage a demonstration condemning the Coimbatore incident. Mr. Nainar Nagendran said that there was no point in forming seven special teams. The police should play a proactive role in preventing such heinous crime. On November 4, the BJP will stage a demonstration in all district headquarters, he added.
