Food Safety licence of a motel along Madurai-Srivilliputtur highway at Alagapuri was suspended on charges of unhygienic condition of its kitchen and stale meat found on its premises by Food Safety Officers on Thursday.

A statement said that during an inspection by the officials, led by District Food Safety Designated Officer, S. Mariappan, the team found waste water stagnant in the kitchen. Besides, 5 kg of stale chicken, 37 kg of flour, and 13 kg of ā€œoldā€ chapatis were discovered.

The officials destroyed these items.

The team also found that 3 kg of starch powder, 1 kg of cashew and 7 litres of vinegar stocked without proper labelling.

The restaurant was serving different food items without valid food safety licence. The officials suspended its functioning with immediate effect.

The permission to resume operation of the restaurant will be given only after setting right the deficiencies.

After a thorough enquiry, a case would be filed for poor upkeep of the kitchen, the statement said.

Later, the officials seized and destroyed two kg of cut fruits kept for prolonged period during an inspection at a recreation club in Satchiyapuram in Sivakasi.

Four kg of fruits, vegetables, and peanuts were also seized as the club did not have valid food safety licence.

Earlier in the day, an inspection was conducted at a restaurant on PKN Road in Sivakasi that had children’s play facilities.

The officials also seized 3 kg of fried rice and 2 kg of chicken that had been cooked the previous day.

Five kg of ready-made chapati and French fries that were not properly maintained were destroyed. The operation of the hotel was ordered to be stopped for the unhygienic condition of the premises, the statement added.
