Union Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna on Thursday inspected the Yesvantpur Coaching Depot and reviewed its maintenance and cleanliness operations.

During the visit, the Minister took stock of the various facilities available at the depot and assessed its overall performance under the ongoing Special Cleanliness Campaign.

The Yesvantpur Coaching Depot, one of the key maintenance units under South Western Railway, currently maintains 41 rakes and 909 coaches. It handles primary and secondary maintenance of trains and also attends to platform turn-around services. The depot undertakes Intermediate Overhauling of both ICF and LHB coaches to ensure passenger safety and comfort.

Mr. Somanna also visited the depot garden, where a striking 11-foot-tall horse sculpture made entirely from scrap materials such as nuts, bolts, washers, metallic ropes, and springs has been created by the Railways.

According to officials, the sculpture was created by the depot staff under the Waste to Art initiative of the Swachhata Campaign.

“The sculpture highlights innovative recycling practices and artistic expression within the railway premises,” the officials added.
