The trailer of Tamil star Karthi’s upcoming film Vaa Vaathiyaar, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Nalan Kumarasamy, was unveiled by the makers on Saturday (December 6). Starring Krithi Shetty as the female lead, the film is set to release in theatres on December 12.

In the trailer, Karthi appears as Rameshwaran J, a cop who grew up as an ardent fan of late superstar MG Ramachandran, all thanks to his father (Rajkiran). We see glimpses of a political conspiracy that transpires way above Rameshwaran’s pay grade, but somehow, the man gets embroiled in the same. He begins to uphold justice in classic MGR fashion, with some shots even showing him riding a horse or wielding a whip.

The film also features Shilpa Manjunath, Rajkiran, Anand Raj and Sathyaraj in pivotal roles. Karunakaran, GM Sundar, Ramesh Thilak, PL Thenappan, Vidhya Borgia, Nivas Adthitan, and Madhur Mittal are also part of the cast.

With music scored by Santhosh Narayanan, the film has cinematography by George C Williams and editing by Vetre Krishnan. Produced by KE Gnanavelraja under his Studio Green banner, the film marks Nalan’s return to direction after four years, and a return to the feature film format after 10 years.

Notably, there’s been some uncertainty regarding the film’s release since the Madras High Court recently restrained its release pursuant to a plea accusing Studio Green of not having fully settled its dues with a businessman.
