Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu assured the people of Prakasam district that the Veligonda project would be completed by 2026. Once the project becomes operational, it will provide water to drought-prone areas like Kanigiri, Yerragondapalem, Giddalur and Markapuram, making them fertile agricultural lands, he said.
After inaugurating an MSME Park at Pedairlapadu village of Pedacherlo Palle mandal in the district on Tuesday, he addressed the local people. “The NDA government is paying special attention to the backward areas of the State. We will bring industries and water to those areas in Prakasam district,” the Chief Minister said.
“We will complete the Veligonda project by 2026 and soon Kanigiri will become ‘Kanakapatnam’ (golden city). Before the elections, we had promised to provide water to this constituency and we will fulfil it very soon. We will bring water not only from Godavari, but also from Srisailam,” Mr. Naidu said, accusing the previous government for neglecting the completion of the project.
“The project would have been completed by 2020 if we came to power in the 2019 general elections. The people’s problems remained unresolved because of the previous government’s policies. This should not happen again in the future,” he added. Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy and local MLA Mukku Ugra Narasimha Reddy were also present on the occasion.
