Emphasising the importance of consistency as a key to success, Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan urged the graduating students at the 16th convocation of the JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSSAHER) in Mysuru on Sunday to never give up and work hard towards achieving their goals and targets, thereby surmounting the failures.
In his convocation address, Mr. Radhakrishnan urged each graduate to recognise their unique talents and set personal goals aligned with their own rhythm of achievement.
The Vice-President also evoked the words of Swami Vivekenanda to ‘arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached’ while emphasising the significance of perseverance and resilience in the face of challenges.
“Never get dejected by defeats and failures,” he said, while pointing out that those who face more defeats and failures in their lives become stronger and develop the potential to achieve the “unthinkable”.
Citing his own example, the Vice-President said that he had contested five elections in his lifetime, but had won only twice and faced defeat thrice. Despite the setbacks, Mr. Radhakrishnan said that he never stopped working. “That is why I am the Vice-President today”, he stated.
Mr. Radhakrishnan highlighted Karnataka’s rich cultural heritage and acknowledged Kannada’s recognition as a classical language.
He also lauded the Naitonal Education Policy (NEP) 2020 for its emphasis on interdisciplinary learning and flexibility, which empower hardworking students to adapt and excel.
The Vice-President stressed upon the judicious use of social media, reminding young graduates to maintain self-discipline and balance their online presence with real-world responsibilities. He called upon them to show respect and attention to their parents and to adopt positive qualities from others rather than dwell on the negatives.
Mr. Radhakrishnan concluded his address by pointing out that “knowledge is the real wealth” and encouraged the graduates to carry forth the light of wisdom, inspire future generations, and contribute humbly yet decisively to nation-building in alignment with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Visit to Melkote
Mr. Radhakrishnan, who attended the commemoration of Acharya Sri Shantisagar Maharaj at Shravanabelagola in Hassan district earlier in the day, visited the Cheluvaraya Swamy Temple in Melkote in Mandya district.
The Vice-President was received at the helipad set up at the Primary Health Centre in Melkote by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, and Minister in charge of Mandya district N. Cheluvarayaswamy upon his arrival in a special Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopter.
In Mysuru, Mr. Radhakrishnan visited the Suttur Mutt at the foot of the Chamundi Hills and went up to the Chamundeshwari temple atop the hills before his departure to Bengaluru in a special IAF helicopter from the Mandakalli airport in Mysuru.
