Over 100 residents of Bangala Thotti and J.J. Nagar near Hasanur staged a road blockade on the Sathyamangalam–Mysuru National Highway on Saturday morning, demanding restoration of drinking water supply.
The residents, comprising more than 150 families, have not received water through the pipeline installed by the Hasanur Panchayat for the past two months. Despite lodging complaints with the panchayat and Thalavadi taluk office, no remedial action has been taken.
Villagers had been relying on a nearby forest stream for water, but recent leopard activity has made accessing it unsafe. In protest, they gathered near Hasanur police station, blocking the highway with empty plastic water storage pots, causing traffic congestion in both directions.
Police and officials from the panchayat and Thalavadi taluk engaged the villagers in discussions at the site. Residents said the pipeline was damaged during the construction of a low-level bridge near Bangala Thotti, disrupting water supply. They urged immediate repairs to restore services.
