Villagers of Kothakota in Ravikamatham mandal of Anakapalli district staged a protest at Kothakota centre on Saturday (November 22), demanding relaying of the pothole-filled Narsipatnam-Chodavaram-Bheemunipatnam main road.
A few days ago, the rear wheel of a lorry got stuck in pothole developed on the road. During rains in June, the road was waterlogged at some stretches, and vehicles got stuck in potholes. During the rule of the previous YSRCP government, ₹79 crore had been granted to repair the Narsipatnam-Chodavaram-Bheemunipatnam road, but only patching was done as the contractor abandoned the work after the bills were not paid properly, said CPI(M) district secretariat member K. Govinda Rao.
After the TDP-led alliance government came to power, a 2-km stretch of road was relaid, but the problems persist. Schoolchildren and pregnant women were facing the most difficulties while travelling on this road, especially during rains.
Girijan Sangham mandal president Ch. Sankar Rao and PVTG Sangham president Pangi Chandrayya demanded that the officials have the road relaid without further delay.
