The recently inaugurated Semmozhi Poonga in Coimbatore remained closed to the public on Monday as construction work at the park continued, despite announcements that it would be ready for public use by December 1.

People who arrived at the park, which was inaugurated by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on November 25, were stopped at the entrance by security personnel and informed that the facility was not yet open.
Many members of the public who came to see the park returned disappointed. “We came hoping to visit the park after the inauguration. We have come as a family. We saw that work was still going on and we were told a date would be announced later,” said K. Ashok Kumar from Saravanampatti.
Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran said, “The stone-laying work at the entrance is under way and will be completed soon. Ticket scanners and other improvement works are pending and will be carried out, with the overall work expected to take nearly a week. Once all works are finished and the installations inspected, a revised date for public opening will be announced.”
