VOC Port has created a new milestone with the successful unloading of 103 windmill blades in a ship on Tuesday to surpass the previous record of handling 101 blades exported on August 22 last year.

Marking a new milestone in sustainable trade, the Port has achieved a total handling of 2,300 windmill blades up to October this year, registering a 61% increase over the 1,425 blades handled up to the month of October last year.

The blades shipped through the vessel MV GHT Marinas arrived from port of Qinzhou, China. The shipment are being handled at Additional Berth-II with two harbour mobile cranes ensuring safe and efficient handling. The vessel agency, stevedoring, custom house agent and ground transportation are being handled by NTC Logistics India Private Limited.

Blades with the dimension of 89.50 m and 76.80 m length require specialised handling and dedicated storage arrangements. The Port has specialised storage infrastructure, including a dedicated storage area of 1,00,000 square metres within the customs-notified area and vast area outside for accommodating such a over-dimensional cargo. Congestion-free road connectivity and availability of skilled workforce are also key enablers for the historic achievement, an official statement said.

Chairman, VOC Port, Susanta Kumar Purohit stated that the successful handling of 103 windmill blades in a single ship reflects the Port’s efficiency, capability and commitment to supporting India’s renewable energy mission and the Port is taking every effort to provide the best of its service in handling cargo through VOC Port.
